Latest! - What has Algeo Training been up to?

Short bursts of stress can be good for you and in some cases even invigorating.  We can perhaps all recognise the feeling of fulfillment when hitting a deadline and you can relax.  But when stress is relentless it can affect work and in turn personal life.

Following on from our Solutions Thinking event on 18th September, Dave Algeo, of Algeo Training Ltd shares his views on stress and how we can help reduce it.

Stressful situations that last only short periods appeared to tap into the primeval 'fight or flight' response, which dates back to when early humans were threatened by predators. But long-term anxiety has the opposite effect.  Situations that cause permanent stress can turn a person's world upside down to the point of damaging health.

So what can you do to alleviate work-related stress?

Get in control.  When you feel work and other factors are running your life and not the other way round it can be disorientating.

Take a micro-break of as little as a minute.  Walking away and taking a breather can sometimes put space between you and the task.

We all make lists and quite often our computer does it for us, but try reverting back to pen and paper to really prioritise the most urgent tasks.

Communicate and seek help.  Managers and bosses are not always ogres! If you are feeling over stressed talk to someone.  Stressed workers can make mistakes and ultimately take sick leave.

Learn to say no.  If you are working to capacity then say so, explaining clearly what you have on as others may not be aware of what you have on.

If stress is affecting you, your health or the performance and wellbeing of your team, contact Dave Algeo of Algeo Training Ltd and take advantage of a free 1 hr initial consultation.
